Our Parish
St. Elias in Austin, TX is a vibrant and diverse church, with parishioners of all ages and backgrounds, hailing from Central Texas, other parts of the United States, and around the world. We share in the life and traditions of our Orthodox faith.
Our parish was established by immigrants from the Middle East who brought their faith to America with them. Over the years, the original Lebanese Orthodox Christians have shared their faith with others. Faithful from other Orthodox regions like Greece, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Serbia, Bulgaria, Eritrea, and Romania, all call St. Elias their home parish. Many of our families have journeyed to the Orthodox Church from other Christian denominations as well as from non-Christian backgrounds.
Our downtown Austin historic church building was built in 1936. Austin’s longest running food event, the St. Elias Mediterranean Festival, is an annual tradition. Our North Campus serves the booming north Austin corridor with space for Austin’s Central Texas Orthodox community to grow.
St. Elias is part of the Diocese of Wichita and Mid-America under the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, a member of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in America. As a part of the Orthodox Church, one of the largest and most ancient Christian communions in the world, our jurisdiction traces its roots 2000 years back to Antioch, the city where the Lord's disciples were first called Christians.
